The Early Warning Europe project partners organised a 'Mentors’ Day' in Brussels on 10 October. This was an opportunity to discuss the achievements of the project, with a particular focus on the crucial role that Mentors play in providing advice and support to entrepreneurs.

Some 40 Mentors from 6 countries (Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Poland and Spain) took part in the Mentor’s day organised on 10 October 2019 in Brussels. The event began with breakfast at the European Parliament, where the participants were welcomed by Pernille Weiss, an MEP from Denmark who is also a former entrepreneur. This provided a chance for some of the mentors to share their experiences and lessons learned during the project with representatives from the European Commission, (DG Grow and EASME), the European Parliament and the organisations involved in the Early Warning Europe project.

After a visit to the European Parliament‘s interactive exhibition (Parlamentarium), the mentors took part in a Workshop at the headquarters of the Economic and Social Committee of the European Union. During this Workshop, the mentors and other project partners discussed two key questions. Firstly – what is the best approach for helping an entrepreneur who is facing difficulties? Secondly – what kind of training and support should be provided to mentors who are working with entrepreneurs in distress?

In the afternoon, the Mentors’ Day participants had the chance to attend the final meeting of the Early Warning Europe Experts Network, which focused on the mental health of entrepreneurs and the psychological impacts of negative experiences – specifically in the context of business failure and insolvency.
